If you've just started breastfeeding, you're doing the right thing for you and your baby. But if breastfeeding doesn't come naturally at first, don't worry. Plenty of new mums and babies have to practise and persevere until they get the hang of it. Yes, breastmilk is the best food for your baby. It's the healthiest way to feed her. Breastmilk is a complete food. It contains at least 400 nutrients, as well as hormones and disease-fighting compounds, that aren't present in formula milk. Its nutritional makeup even adjusts to your baby's needs as she grows. Feeding your baby only breastmilk for up to six months (exclusive breastfeeding) is particularly good for her. It can improve your baby’s cognitive development. So being breastfed could even make her more intelligent. Babies who are exclusively breastfed from birth are also much less likely to be ill in their first year of life. Being breastfed may help your baby to fend off illnesses such as: gastroenteritis pneumonia and bronchiolitis ear infections We can't say that exclusive breastfeeding reduces the risk of children ever developing eczema. But babies who are breastfed for any period of time do tend to have lower rates of severe eczema than babies who were always formula-fed. Mom Berated by Customer for Breast-Feeding Baby in Target mom berated by Target customer for breastfeeding baby MOM BERATED BY CUSTOMER FOR BREASTFEEDING IN CONNECTICUT TARGET Mother berated by Target customer over her breastfeeding. He demands a refund when he sees her breastfeeding her baby. Watch as other customers come to her defense. A Connecticut woman who was berated by a man who called her "disgusting" for breast-feeding her baby in public at a Target store is thanking customers and employees who defended her. Jessie Maher captured part of the confrontation Monday in the cafe of a Torrington store on video and posted it to Facebook. The video was viewed nearly 3 million times and shared nearly 43,000 times by Tuesday afternoon. Maher says the man swore at her and insulted her. Maher is heard on the video saying she's shaking. One woman comes to her defense, saying: "You shouldn't be ashamed of feeding your baby." Two male Target employees then confront the man and escort him away from the cafe. Connecticut state law and Target policy protect nursing in public. A Connecticut woman who was berated by a man who called her "disgusting" for breastfeeding her baby in public at a Connecticut Target store is thanking customers and employees who defended her. Jessie Maher starting recording the incident in the cafeteria of a Target in Torrington Monday after the man allegedly started cursing at her for breastfeeding her baby. Shoppers immediately came to her defense, and Target employees also responded. The angry customer demanded a refund for having to see a woman breastfeeding in public and eventually left. And while Maher was frazzled by his remarks, she was buoyed by all the support. "The amount of people coming at me to defend me was amazing," she said. It is legal to breast feed in public in Connecticut, and Target may choose to allow breastfeeding in their stores in public or in the dressing rooms if they choose Maher posted the video to her Facebook page, where it's gone viral. And support for her and her daughter Zinnia continues to stream in. She also happens to be studying to become a Douala, and she is now planning to file a police report. "With all the hate going on in the world, it's pretty ridiculous," she said. "I think he needs to know that, and i think other people need to know that too." Her video was viewed nearly 3 million times and shared nearly 43,000 times by Tuesday afternoon.

How often I breastfeed my toddler and the key to successful breastfeeding

There is a lot of coflict over extended breastfeeding and how long to breastfeed. I know 11 nd 15 years ago when I was breastfeeding and bottle feeding my older boys I would have thought 16 months was way to long and borderline wrong. I would never have thought to breastfeed in public or around anyone(not even family) 11 and 15 years ago with my first two children. It was a lack of understanding and support as well as the over sexualization of breasts in our culture and it lead to early weaning even sooner than even the AAP guidelines state as well as the introduction of the bottle and artifical baby milk. I am thankful for videos on YouTube, they were a great source for knowledge, encouragement and support this third time around and lead me to go back to school to become certified as a Lactation Educator Counselor this past spring to help other nursing moms. Had breastfeeding not become more normalized over the past decade there is no way I would have been able to last thing long(nourishing my daughter as she needs it). Feeding when and where my daughter needs has lifted the unknown restrictions I had years ago that lead to early weaning imposed by me. You can do it. Newborn Baby LIVE C Section Delivery, Toturial BreastFeeding a Newborn BABY Day1 to Day4 Breastfeeding practices: The practices to be followed in breastfeeding a baby. Human milk is the preferred feeding for all infants, including premature and sick newborns, with rare exceptions. When direct breastfeeding is not possible, expressed human milk, fortified when necessary for the premature infant, should be provided. The following recommendations are based on those of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Breastfeeding should begin as soon as possible after birth, usually within the first hour. Except under special circumstances, the newborn infant should remain with the mother throughout the recovery period. Newborns should be nursed whenever they show signs of hunger, such as increased alertness or activity, mouthing, or rooting. Crying is a late indicator of hunger. Newborns should be nursed approximately 8 to 12 times every 24 hours until they are satisfied, usually 10 to 15 minutes on each breast. In the early weeks after birth, nondemanding babies should be aroused to feed if 4 hours have elapsed since the last nursing.

Conn. mom berated by Target customer for breastfeeding baby. A Connecticut woman who was berated by a man who called her "disgusting" for breastfeeding her baby in public at a Target store is thanking customers and employees who defended her. Maher told CBS affiliate WFSB that the man in the video told her that what she was doing was disgusting. "I am feeding my baby, and I have the right to do it here," Maher told the man. The exchanges became heated between Maher and the man. "Because I am feeding my baby, this man is going crazy and I'm shaking," Maher said in the video. The man demanded a refund from the staff because Maher was breastfeeding in public. An unidentified woman came to her aide along with the Target staff. "You shouldn't be ashamed of feeding your baby. He can go the other way. This is a beautiful moment. If he doesn't like it he can go," the unidentified woman is heard saying in the video. "Then don't look, okay? I'm here to protect her." Two male Target employees then confront the man and escort him away from the cafe. The man apparently left the store shortly thereafter. "The amount of people coming at me to defend me was amazing," Maher told WFSB. "Everyone that was right in that area was there for me defending me, so it felt really good." Connecticut state law and Target policy protect nursing in public. Maher said the Target employees told her she was free to breastfeed her baby anywhere in the store. WFSB reached out to Target media relations and they confirm they allow nursing inside their store. "At Target, we want all of our guests to feel comfortable shopping with us. Our breastfeeding policy, which applies to all stores, is just one of the ways in which we support our guests. Guests who choose to breastfeed in public areas of the store are welcome to do so without being made to feel uncomfortable," Target said in a statement on Monday.

Breastfeeding mother films enraged man 'verbally abusing' her in Target store before brave staff step in to defend her A Connecticut mom who was berated by a man for breastfeeding her baby while shopping in Target has shared a video of how staff and a customer came to her defense. Jessie Maher, who lives in Canton, posted a video taken inside the Target at Torrington, showing herself being 'verbally assaulted by an old man in Target for breastfeeding my baby'. Maher says that she started filming around 11.30am Monday after the man said to to her: 'Can't you do that somewhere else? That's f****** disgusting.' Maher said the man also called her a 'wh***'. Maher said the incident occurred at a coffee shop inside the Target and that the man demanded a refund after witnessing her breastfeeding, Fox 17 reported. During the video, a woman can be heard coming over to Maher and standing by her in support. The woman can be heard saying: 'You shouldn't be ashamed of feeding your baby, okay? He can go the other way. This is a beautiful moment right now, if he doesn't like it he can go.' The man says that Jessie was being disrespectful to him, to which the woman replied: 'Then don't look!' Then, three Target staffers - two men and a woman - arrive at the coffee shop and appear to gesture the man to leave. Jessie wrote in a comment on her post that one of the male employees 'was so sweet… He kept saying, 'It's your right to nurse where ever you want here.' Target have not yet commented on the incident. However, as per the company's policy, 'guests may openly breastfeed in our stores,' The policy also states: 'Target's policy supports breastfeeding in any area of our stores, including our fitting rooms, even if others are waiting.'
